Griffons Win Regular Season Home Opener

Four Missouri Western players finish in double figures in an 86-68 win over Midland.
(ST. JOSEPH) Dzenan Mrkaljevic and Adarius Fulton led Missouri Western with 17 points apiece as the Griffons defeated Midland, the 8th-ranked team in the NAIA, 86-68 at the MWSU Fieldhouse on Tuesday.

Midland (3-1) contended kept it tight for the game's first 14 minutes until a Fulton three-pointer broke a 21-21 tie with 5:56 left before halftime. MWSU (2-1) ended the half on an 18-5 to grab 39-26 lead at the break.

Cortez Colbert added 14 points while Ryan Devers poured in 12 as the other Griffons in double figures. Fulton nailed five three-pointers overall to go along with matching a game-high with six rebounds. Cedric Clinkscales also pulled down six boards.

Overall, MWSU enjoyed their most potent shooting night of the short season, nailing 50 percent from the field while going 10-for-23 from beyond the arc.

The Griffons begin the Hillyard Tip-Off Classic on Friday in St. Joseph with an 8 p.m. tip against William Jewell College.
