18 Year Old Shot after Possibly Being Mistaken for Turkey

(CLINTON CO., Mo.) The Missouri Department of Conservation is investigating a turkey hunting accident left that an 18-year-old girl shot.

The incident happened on May 7 at Smithville Lake.

Officials say Andi Rittel, 18, of Independence was shot in the leg after she was possibly mistaken for a wild turkey.

The person who fired the shot left the scene.

Rittel suffered shotgun pellet wounds.

She was able to walk to her vehicle and was treated and released from the hospital the same day.
