(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Apple Bus Company prepared its bus drivers to get kids to and from school safely.

The five-hour training course, held at Remington Nature Center, is required for all drivers every year, no matter how long they have spent behind the wheel.

"I know we hear the same thing every year, but it freshens our mind," said Phil Zimmerman, Avenue City Bus Driver.

"They just need to remember we're starting off again new, and fresh, and to be on their toes and be aware," said Kim Green, Apple Bus Company's Transportation Manager.

Phil Zimmerman has been an Avenue City bus driver for nearly two decades.

Although he's a veteran, he still finds a new way to make sure his kids stay safe.

"Driving through obstacles courses, checking out the bus, pre-trip the bus, which we do every morning before we go on our route," he says.

During the training, bus drivers went through a folder that included St. Joseph new bus routes.

About half have changed since last year.
