Catholic Charities Honor Service through Spirit Awards

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Some of the area's biggest supporters of non-profit agencies earned top honors for their contributions Wednesday.

Catholic Charities of Kansas City - St. Joseph, Inc. hosted the Community Spirit Awards at the Holiday Inn Riverfront Hotel in St. Joseph to recognize volunteers and donors.

Catholic Charities provides social services to more than 200,000 people in Kansas City, St. Joseph and rural northwest Missouri.

The 2012 Community Spirit Awards honored people whose deeds exemplify the mission of Catholic Charities.

Tom and Helen Rehm of St. Joseph are longtime volunteers at the Open Door Food Kitchen.

Patrick Turner, owner of St. Joseph Pizza Shoppe, donates proceeds to local non-profits.

Elaine Ingle of Savannah volunteers with Show Me Women Who Care.

"I know that there are many, many people in this community who serve others. And, so, I'm very humbled by it that they would recognize me for the service that I do," said Ingle.

Representatives from Catholic Charities in St. Joseph and Kansas City attended the awards ceremony.
