(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.)  The St. Joseph City Council passed a resolution that would give the go ahead for a curb and sidewalk project on Faraon Street.

The project is being used as part of the capital improvement tax that voters passed in 2012.

Public Works Director Jody Carlson said the project will be used to test whether they will fund similar projects in other parts of town.

"Visually it will look much better you know you get brand new curbs, brand new sidewalks and it will be a lot better appearance so it would be a great opportunity to try something out like this," he said.

The improvements will go from 22nd Street on Faraon all the way to the Frederick intersection.

"I see more people walking all the time and our sidewalks are certainly in need of some repairs but so are our streets," said Councilwoman Barbara LaBass.

Carlson says they hope the project will be completed by winter.
