Commissioner's Office Organizing Ambulance Board

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Buchanan County Commissioners held interviews throughout the day Wednesday to find board members for REMSA, the new organization running the county-led ambulance service.

Commissioners are looking for four business leaders in the community to serve on the board along with the sheriff, the emergency manager, police chief, fire chief and presiding commissioner.

Heartland Regional Medical Center announced last summer that they would discontinue ambulance service. A sales tax was approved by voters for the county to fund the service.

Presiding Commissioner RT Turner said the board will serve a variety of functions.

"It will be a hands-on oversight board that will actually run REMSA," said Turner. "Obviously, there will be a director that runs it, but this board then will give direction to the director."

The Commissioner's Office is currently looking at six potential candidates, but that number could expand.

REMSA will take over the service starting July 1.
