At a meeting Thursday afternoon, the C.A.R.E. Committee recommended services be run by Buchanan County, with the help of an independent board.
The committee is pulling back from the option of services run by an ambulance district.
Heartland Health is scheduled to discontinue services next July.
The committee says this option will allow for the smoothest transition and the best service moving forward.
"The quality of care is the most important thing. This will be the same people, the same equipment, same concern for the community. These people live in the community, as opposed to if we went with an RFP, or had a for-profit company run the service," said Scott Meierhoffer, with the C.A.R.E. Committee.
There will be a public hearing on this issue Monday morning at 9:00 o'clock at the courthouse.
Ballot language must be finalized and submitted by Tuesday, August 27.
The committee will have more answers on funding for service on Monday as well.
