(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Hugs were shared all around the hallway as former staff members from Hall Elementary reunited at their old stomping grounds one last time.

"It's just a lot of fun to come back and see the rooms and see the great things that are still going on in this building," said Jeaneen Boyer, former Hall Elementary principal.

After educating St. Joseph children for more than a century, Hall Elementary is closing its doors.

There was an open house for the community to see the changes and reflect on old times before the school closes for good.

"Great traditions that have gone on here at Hall over the past 104 years and just great memories altogether," said Hall Elementary Principal Heather Gladhart.

One particular group came together for the first time in years.

They worked together at Hall many years ago.

"We became friends outside of school and there was just a lot of laughter and fun and I believe the kids felt that too," said Boyer.

Boyer was principal from 1995 to 2004.

She is not sad the school is closing, but instead, she is happy.

She said this shows the St. Joseph School District is making necessary changes for a better education.

"To me this is progress and it means the St. Joseph School District is moving to the future so that they can have schools and environments like that for future kids," she said.

As Boyer and some of her former staff members took a final walk down memory lane, they left with smiles, laughs, and the joy that Hall brought during its time in St. Joseph.

"It's just truly transformed throughout the years but overall you can still see the love for children and the love for education," said Boyer.

"There's just a lot of happiness, a lot of great time for people to come together in this community and say hello to people maybe they haven't seen in a while and just reminisce," said Gladhart.

Hall Elementary, along with Noyes Elementary, are closing to make room for two new schools; Carden Park and Oak Grove.

Both are set to open this fall.
