Crews Respond to Fire at National Beef Plant

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Firefighters and emergency crews responded to a fire at a business on the Stockyards Expressway late Thursday night.

The fire happened at the National Beef Plant just before 10:00 p.m.

According the Battalion Chief Paris Jenkins, the fire involved a small amount of a chemical and paper products inside the building.

St. Joseph firefighters battled the blaze using both water and dry chemical extinguishers.

Both St. Joseph Emergency Management Coordinator George Albert and Buchanan County emergency crews also responded to the incident to decontaminate personnel inside the building as a precautionary measure.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
