(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Less than three weeks remain until the August 5th primarily election, meaning time is running out for candidates to make an impression.

On Wednesday night, many local candidates met at Geneo's in St. Joseph for pizza and some light campaigning.

"There's a lot of people at this time, even though this is just a primary election coming up, they don't have their minds made up, and this gives the public, especially the public from downtown, to be able to come out, meet the candidates, kinda get to know where they stand on different issues," said Brian Myers, a business owner and board member of the St. Joseph Downtown Association.

The St. Joseph Downtown Association hosted the event as part of their quarterly membership meeting.

"Usually it helps get a better turnout for our membership meetings if we have something, a program of some type, and with the primary election coming up in August, we just thought that would be a good idea," said Greg Bigham, the president of the Downtown Association.

On August 5th, voters will elect Republican and Democratic candidates for circuit judges in divisions five and six in Buchanan County.

Voters will also choose candidates for county clerk, county commissioner and a U.S. Representative for District 6 in Missouri.

Each candidate had a few minutes to speak to the crowd about their platform and have one on one conversations.

"It gives us a chance to talk to some of the candidates," Bigham said. "There's a few of them I know personally and some I've never met before and it just gives everybody a little bit more information."

The general election for those that win the primaries will take place November 4th.

There are several other offices where candidates are running unopposed.

Voters will also decide on several amendment changes to the Missouri Constitution in the August 5th election.
