(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Fourth graders from St. James helped out at second harvest this afternoon as part of Catholic School Week.

The kids organized sacks of snacks for the second harvest's back pack buddies program.

Catholic School Week is an event held each year where students and faculty help out in their communities.

Teacher Amy Ross said it opens the students eyes to others in the community.

"I just think it's so great that they are helping other children," Ross said.

The students said they loved helping out and getting out of the classroom at the same time.

Other grade levels visited nursing homes, spoke with veterans and worked with the Special Olympics.

The week concludes on Friday with a student vs. faculty volleyball game at 2:00 at St. James.
