(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) It's unusual for this time of year but the flu season is lingering. Doctors say due to a harsh winter, there's an increase in flu-like symptoms.

Although it may seem odd to get a flu shot now, experts say it's not too late to get vaccinated to prevent this second wave from spreading.

"Flu can happen at any time of the year, any month of the year and even on the Fourth of July, but it would be much more likely to occur in January than in July," stated Dr. Scott Folk, from the Heartland Regional Medical Center.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention expects the virus to weaken next month. In St. Joseph, two people have tested positive for the virus this month.
