(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A local politician is feeling good after Tuesdays election.

Bill Hedge, a Democrat running for Congressional District 6 in Missouri won the primary with 53 % of the vote.

Hedge is a pastor in St. Joseph who is hoping to take district 6 from current Congressman Sam Graves.

Graves is in his seventh term in Congress.

Hedge says he's excited, but knows he's only halfway to his goal.
"As you realize we're only at halftime and the game is not over with until you finish the fourth quarter and there's three zeroes on the clock," he said. "But I am encouraged by the voters, I'm encouraged with what we're able to accomplish."

Hedge says he will travel to all 36 counties in the next few months leading up to the election.

The general election is November 4th.
