(COSBY, Mo.) A northwest Missouri man has announced his intention to file for a State Senate seat.

Dan Hegeman announced Saturday that he plans to file for the 12th district seat set to be vacated by Republican Brad Lager at the end of the year.

Hegeman, a Republican, served in the Missouri House of Representatives for 11 years. More recently, he was the Andrew County Clerk.

Since leaving public office, Hegeman has worked for KCP&L as north district community affairs manager.

Hegeman is a part owner of a family farm in northwest Missouri and says he would like to see more representation for farmers in Jefferson City.

“I believe the primary driver of our economy in Northwest Missouri is agriculture,” said Hegeman. “No matter who you are, you depend on it three times every day. We need more farmers who understand the importance of this issue in the Capitol.

A Savannah High School graduate, Hegeman also served as Congressman Sam Graves' associate district manager in 2008.
