The St. Joseph Regional Port Authority Board of Commissioners met Wednesday morning to discuss the construction of a hopper conveyor system.
"We've had issues with a companies wanting to bring fertilizer into the port by barge and rail. And the issue is that we didn't have a way to load and unload the barges or the railcars. And so this conveyor system will do that," said St. Joseph Regional Port Authority Executive Director Brad Lau.
Officials hope to have the conveyor system completed by the end of the year.
