(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) For those families who may not be able to afford school supplies, a local business is stepping in to help.

The Cellular Connection will donate nearly 300 backpacks filled with supplies to kids in need.
The backpack giveaway is a part of the company's move to have a positive impact on the community.
Last year, the company donated 60,000 backpacks to children. This year they've increased that number to 100,000 nationwide.

Store leaders say they want to ensure that as many children as possible are set up for success in the classroom.

"It makes me feel good knowing that I get to come in and help kids out. It's just good to know that they care about the communities that they're operating in and not just about a bottom dollar," stated manager David Pinter.

The backpacks will be distributed on a first come first serve basis August 2 from noon until 2:00 p.m.

The child must be present to receive a backpack. For more information, call (816) 387-8338.

The store is located at 4106 N Belt Hwy.
