Law enforcement members are reminding parents of an important safety tips before kids head out to trick-or-treat on Halloween.
The Missouri Highway Patrol offers an online sex offender registry that allows people to search their neighborhood, or any neighborhood in the state to see if there are registered offenders in the area.
The Buchanan County Sheriff's Department says there are more than 270 registered offenders in the county.
On Halloween, offenders are instructed to be inside by 5 p.m. and stay indoors until at least 10:30 p.m., but deputies say it's important for families to be in the know.
"You never know what somebody's going to do, especially when a kid is out there by themselves without parents with them. They just need to be cautious of everybody," Kenneth Shryock with the sheriff's department said.
Offenders are also required to post a sign stating they have no candy at their residence.
