It's the end of an era for "Once Upon A Child" in St. Joseph as longtime owner and operator Julie Woods closed a beloved chapter in her life.

"It's bittersweet," Woods said.

The consignment store has been a staple in the St. Joseph community for 17 years. Woods plans to close up shop in March.

"I feel like I've accomplished everything that I set out to do. I never set out to make money on it. I set out to provide the community with quality, used clothing at a fair and decent price and I know that we did that," Woods said.

Loyal customers gathered remaining sale items Monday before the store closes for good in March.

"I've been shopping here for probably 9 or 10 years and it just makes me really sad, that they're closing. We've gotten so many good deals here and the people are so nice," Once Upon A Child customer Annie Rhoad said.

The future of the current location remains unknown but customers are hoping for the best regarding a similar consignment store concept.

"I hope that somebody else buys it or opens a store like this in St. Joe," Rhoad said.

Although a page in Woods' chapter is soon over, she looks forward to the future.

"It's not going to hit probably until March. Right now, just getting the word out was hard. I put it off as long as possible because I didn't want it to be real. I'm sure as March gets closer I'm sure my feelings will get really sad but for now I'm just going down memory lane and remembering the good times," Woods said.

Once Upon A Child's official closing date is Saturday, March 18
