Missouri Rates Highest In the Nation for Black Homicide Victims

WASHINGTON D.C. - Missouri's black homicide victimization rate is the highest in the nation.

An annual study conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Supplementary Homicide Report reports that the state leads in black homicide victimization for the second year in a row.

In 2009, there were 239 black homicide victims, resulting in a homicide rate of 34.72 per 100,000, which is seven times the national rate with overall an 6,505 black homicide victims at a rate of 4.76 per 100,000.

Michigan comes in second with 30.31 per 100,000.

The study found that firearms, usually handguns, were the weapon of choice in the homicides.
