(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander spoke today at Northwest Missouri State University's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to officially recognize the center.

The CIE center is a service-oriented incubator connecting industry and academics.

The center allows students to gain hands-on experience through research.

Kander says it's important to have this type of structure available to Missourians who want to start their own business.

"We have very talented people in this state who want to start company's and those company's are going to stay here and do great things so I want to do everything we can to accelerate that process," added Kander.

"Anything that we can do as a university to ensure that the students have real-life experiences to us is one of the most important things in education," said Larry Lee, director of the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The CIE incubator is one of 9 in the state.

The center has been designated by the Missouri Technology Corporation.

The designation is on a provisional basis through June.
