(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) Missouri Senator Bill Stouffer, R-Napton, is proposing a bill that would make distracting driving a misdemeanor.

The proposed bill, Senate Bill 717, would define distracted driving as failure to give full time and attention to driving or engaging in any other activity which causes a driver to be distracted from operating his/her motor vehicle.

Anyone who violates these provisions would be guilty of a Class C misdemeanor, unless an accident is involved, then it would be a Class A misdemeanor.

Stouffer is also encouraging the use of push-to-talk and hands-free devices while driving.
