Nebraska Man Seriously Injured in Crash Near Mound City

(MOUND CITY, Mo.) A Nebraska man was seriously injured in an early morning crash on Interstate 29 just outside of Mound City on Friday.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 1:45 a.m. when Sonthana Thongphanh, 42, was traveling south and went off the right side of the highway, sending his car into a ditch where it struck two trees.

Thongphanh was transported to Heartland Regional Medical Center by LifeNet where he is being treated for serious injuries.

The Holt County Sheriff Department and Mound City Fire Department assisted the Highway Patrol responding to the accident.

Authorities are still unsure if he was wearing a safety belt.
