(GLADSTONE, Mo.) Northwest Missouri State University has partnered with north Kansas City Schools and the city of Gladstone to create the Northland Innovation Campus.

The incubator, which connects industry and academics will be built in downtown Gladstone.

Students will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through research.

Leaders say this type of structure will help those interested in starting a business.

The campus will house the district's gifted program, CAPS.

The center will also allow students to earn college credits for Maple Woods and Northwest Missouri State University .

Construction of the two new buildings is to be completed in about a year, allowing the district to move into its space before the 2015-16 school year.
