(JEFFERSON CITY) Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed a bill Monday that would have banned e-cigarette sales to anyone under 18-years-old.

The same law, however, would have also exempted the nicotine products from the state's tobacco tax.

"This bill appears to be nothing more than a thinly disguised and cynical attempt to exempt e-cigarettes from taxes and regulations protecting public health," Gov. Nixon said.

Nixon also said that the FDA is already working to regulate the e-cigarette market by banning underage sales and adding additional warning labels.
