(NODAWAY COUNTY, Mo.) A northwest Missouri man is under investigation for allegedly killing a horse.

The Nodaway County Sheriff's Department says the incident happened Saturday night in Quitman.

"There was an incident involving a pick-up truck and a horse," said Chief Deputy David Glidden. "As a result of that incident the horse died from being ran over by the pick-up truck."

One neighbor, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she watched it all unfold.

"He got out and he put a chain on the animal and pulled it up out of there," she said.

Authorities say they're still investigating to determine whether or not the incident was intentional or simply an accident.

"Majority of the people just want us to go lock the man up," Glidden said. "While it's a terrible tragedy it may very well in fact may not be a crime or it may be a crime."

The sheriff's department says they've turned the case over to the country prosecutor.
