(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph man was treated for serious injuries after receiving multiple stab wounds in an attack in the early hours of Friday morning.

According to police, the attack happened just after midnight on the 1500 block on South 38th Street.

Police believe Justin Colvin, 34, was attacked when the suspect pulled up in a car and proceeded to begin stabbing the victim before fleeing.

The victim was taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center where emergency surgery was performed to treat his injuries.

Officers investigating the case say they have reason to believe the incident was not random and that the attacker and victim knew one another.

They also say there is no reason to believe there is any connection between this incident and another stabbing that occurred in St. Joseph Thursday night.
