(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The St. Joseph Police Department has blocked off an area near Blackwell Road in north St. Joseph after someone discovered what appears to be a pipe bomb.

Capt. Kevin Castle said city yard crews found the device located at the corner of Savannah Ave. and Green Valley Road.

Capt. Castle said it appears to be made of PVC pipe.

Officers do not believe the pipe is explosive, but they are taking precautions just in case. The Kansas City Police Department bomb unit came up to dispose of the device.

Areas of Green Valley Road and Blackwell Road were blocked off to traffic, but are now reopened.
