(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Buchanan County's new ambulance service continues to take shape.

Representatives from the county met with Heartland staff to go through the punch list of items still needed to be covered before the actual hand off on July 1.

At that time, the REMSA Ambulance Service will be in operation.

"We're down to where we're just signing contracts here real quick," said Buchanan County Presiding Commissioner R.T. Turner. "We'll get the lease agreement out on the employees. We're going to finalize the equipment transfer and those kind of things. A lot of it is going to be just formalities toward the end."

The ambulance group recently received news they will continue to be able to use Heartland's garage as a base of operations for an extended period of time.

While it had originally been reported that the cutoff date will be next July, REMSA will need its own new garage by next March.
