ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Sergeant Tia Masters spends her days going through mobility equipment at the 139th Airlift Wing at Rosecrans.

It's a job she's been doing for three years, Masters is in charge of passing out the proper gear when airmen are preparing to deploy.

"They'll come in and get all their chemical warfare gear, the mask, canteen, their suits and boots, and stuff like that that they need to protect themselves overseas," said Sergent Tia Masters.

As an active member at Rosecrans for the past twelve years, Masters has become involved with several volunteer organizations.

"Every year for the last three years, I've done the Second Harvest food kitchen, Empty Bowls and I've been a table captain for five years for the Women of Excellence," said Sgt. Masters.

And this year she's working alongside Sergeant Brandon Paxton in coordinating the Military Ball, an event they haven't had in seven years.

"What kind of brought it back is our high-ops, and all of our deployments in the past seven years or so, we haven't had all of us home at one point. With a lot of us being home at this time, we decided that it was time to celebrate our victory over the last seven to ten years of deployments," said Sergeant Brandon Paxton.

Paxton works with the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center in the audio-visual department where he does promotions and marketing, and this year, he's in charge of the group that's organizing the Military Ball.

"We're completely spearheading it, all the planning aspects of it. We do have a lot of support with our upper leadership, but all the planning and process comes through us," said Sgt. Paxton.

"Sergeant Paxton and I have put in the time to get it ready to go, along with the other committee members that we have," said Sgt. Masters.

It's a collaborative effort on base to plan an evening in honor of their victories over the years.

The Military Ball is scheduled for April 6, at the Civic Arena.

It's open to all current or retired military personnel, and tickets can be purchased on base at Rosecrans.
