Six Die in Crashes on Missouri Highways During Holiday Weekend

(JEFFEERSON CITY) Six people died in traffic crashes on Missouri highways over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to 263 accidents over the four day counting period.

Troopers also arrested 142 people for driving while intoxicated.

One of the fatal accidents claimed the life of a northwest Missouri man.

The Highway Patrol said 39-year-old Andrew Mathews of Plattsburg died when he was thrown off his ATV after it went off the side of the road.

Troopers said Mathews was not wearing a helmet.

The accident happened on Route Y in Plattsburg on Thursday.
