(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) St. Joseph School District administrators say in an effort to be more transparent, they are releasing information about more stipends issued to staff and faculty.

Human Resources Director Doug Flowers says many of these stipends have been eliminated from the salary program for new hires, but some current staff have been grandfathered in and are still receiving them.

Flowers could not detail the exact number of people who get these stipends or how much the extra stipends add up to.

The newly released stipend information will be included in a revised salary booklet that the board of education will need to approve at its meeting next Monday.

Board member Chris Danford, who has been critical of the district's handling of stipends, says she was shocked to hear of Wednesday's revelation.

Last month, it was revealed that 54 chief administrators had received more than $250,000 worth of stipends without board approval.

That discovery has led to an investigation by the FBI and the initiation of a state audit.
