(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) It was a big night for teachers in the St. Joseph School District.

The district's foundation hosted the Tribute to Teachers and Staff dinner at Missouri Western Thursday night.

Around 425 educators attended the event that provided an opportunity to recognize retiring educators and those who have reached certain service milestones.

Foundation leadership are happy to put on the event each year and support teachers.

"I think they're critical because they obviously teach our youth in the community from K-12," said Ben Byrd, Board Chair of the St. Joseph School District Foundation. "These people obviously have a big impact on our community and our children because they have them all day. They influence all those kids throughout St. Joseph. I think the least we can do is honor them."

Recognized at the dinner were:

Teacher of the Year: Barbara Bell, Benton High School
Innovators of the Year: Lisa Miller, Lafayette High School and Lisa Beavers, Central High School
Support Person of the Year: Susie Farmer
Volunteer of the Year: Robert Thuman, American Family Insurance
