The St. Joseph Police Department asked drivers avoid a stretch of Interstate 29 from mile markers 39 to 42 because of icy conditions. They said numerous cars went off the roadway between St. Joseph and Faucett before noon.
Police also responded to an accident on US Highway 36 near 10th Street in St. Joseph. The accident blocked the westbound lanes, but reopened before 1 p.m.
The Missouri Department of Transportation has trucks plowing and treating I-29 and other area highways. MoDOT says crews will be working along I-29 until it is clear because it is considered a continuous operation route. They are also working on Highway 36. KQ2 Meteorologist Mike Bracciano says the light snow will likely continue through the early afternoon, with another round of snow as we head toward Friday night and Saturday morning. Total accumulations are expected to be between 3 and 5 inches.
