After Aurelein Collin tied it 1-1 with a header in the second half, his penalty kick proved to be the difference as Sporting Kansas City defeated Real Salt Lake 7-6 to win the 2013 Major League Soccer Cup. It's the first league title for Kansas City since the Wizards pulled off the feat in 2000.
Alvaro Saborio put Real Salt Lake on top with the opening goal in the 52nd minute. It took until the 76th minute before Collin sent in the equalizer.
Following 30 minutes of extra time, Sporting KC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in a best-of-5 shootout, but Javier Morales sent it to sudden death at a 3-3 tie in Real Salt Lake's final chance.
