(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) This time of year, it seems there is a different charity on every corner raising money or collecting supplies for those in need.

A St. Joseph bar owner is taking it a step further, camping out on the roof of his business to recruit donations.

Mike Powers plans to camp on the roof of Bill's Pub in south St. Joseph until he raises $10,000.

"We built a little building for me to stay out of the wind," said Powers. "I've got blankets and miscellaneous stuff up there."

Powers plans to split the money with several different groups including March of Dimes, Second Harvest Community Food Bank and kids in the south end.

His supporters say he'll stay until he collects every last dime.

"He's really doing a wonderful thing, especially for some of the organizations that need help," said one customer. "I just help we get him down before he freezes to death."

Powers has pulled similar stunts before in the name of charity, but this is his most outrageous feat yet.

"I've been thinking about doing it in the middle of winter to make it quick," he said.

The bar has planned several events to help Powers reach his goal, and they just hope to have him off the roof in time for Christmas.

"He doesn't really have to come down until Christmas Eve because he is Santa, but he doesn't want to stay up there that long," said Lisa Powers, Mike's wife.

If you want to make a donation, you can swing by Bill's Pub on King Hill Avenue where you'll find Powers perched on top of the roof.

The nearby Nodaway Valley Bank branch is also accepting donations.
