(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.)    The St. Joseph Police Department will soon get more than a dozen new vehicles.

The department will get 10 new patrol and three unmarked cars for investigators. Funding for the purchase will come from the Public Safety Tax.

The department says the new vehicles were needed since they've been short for a while. There are even some squad cars that were unserviceable because of the constant wear and tear.

"There's not words really for the patrol officer that sits in that car eight hours a day, to get something that is in a lot better shape than what he may have been driving," stated Captain Jeff Wilson, public information officer for SJPD.

Each car is expected to cost a little more than $21,000 and will also include all of the gear officers will use inside the squad car.
