(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A St. Joseph fire station is getting recognition for being among the most stylish in the country.

Fire Station No. 12 on St. Joseph Avenue has been awarded the Silver Design Award from Fire Chief magazine.

The award is part of the magazine's Station Style design competition.

Fire Station No. 12 won in the renovation category. The station was up against 80 other entries nationwide.

The project planners, Williams Spurgeon Kuhl & Freshnock Architects, say Station 12 deserves to be among the most noteworthy in the country.

"The  Silver  Award  confirms  our  belief  that  Station  No. 12 represents leading-edge fire station design and long-term, cost-effective investment of the City's resources," says Rick
Kuhl, the WSKF Architects principal who led the project design team.
The fire station was built in 1910, and underwent a renovation in 2011 with help from the city's Capital Improvements Program.

The renovations include space for training, fitness equipment, two apparatus bays and living quarters.
