(MARYVILLE, Mo.) A familiar face spoke to graduates at Northwest Missouri State University Saturday.

State Senator and Northwest alumnus, Brad Lager, delivered the commencement address.

Lager said coming back to speak to his alma mater is a special opportunity.

"I grew up here and went to school here, my family is still here," he said. "Much of who I am is because of my time here at Northwest so to have the opportunity and the honor to come back and give this address is very special."

In his commencement address Lager encouraged the students to set goals and embrace public service.

A total of 664 students received their degrees at the ceremony.
