(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) An annual children's show entertained a crowd of students in St. Joseph Monday.

The Optimist Club of St. Joseph treated nearly 900 first and second graders to the show at Stoney Creek Inn.

The group has been hosting the free show for 27 years. This year's educational entertainment featured Major Mark Martsolf.

Organizers say it's important students have an opportunity outside of school to have fun.

"The Optimist Club International is all about bringing out the best in kids. We focus our program and projects in the community on the youth of the community," said Richard Teubner.

The Optimist Club also sponsors the YMCA youth basketball program and the first Lego league.
