SUV Hits Guard Rail on I-29 in St. Joseph

(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) Two people were taken away in ambulances Monday morning after an accident on Interstate 29 in St. Joseph.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the crash a little before 11 a.m.

An SUV, driven by Sharon Waggoner, 19, went off the road and hit a sign and a guard rail on northbound I-29 near Highway 36. The Chevy Blazer came to a rest went it slid into a concrete post.

The St. Joseph Fire Department arrived at the scene to help get Waggoner and her passenger, Deborah Filley, 49, from the vehicle. Both women were taken to Heartland Regional Medical Center in separate ambulances for treatment. Waggoner was treated and released. Heartland did not have information on Filley.

The accident blocked one lane of traffic on northbound I-29 while crews worked to move the vehicle and investigate the cause of the crash.
