Troopers Identify Man Killed in I-29 Wreck

(PLATTE COUNTY, Mo.) An accident that closed I-29 south of St. Joseph Friday killed a man from Nebraska.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said Eric P. Gouin, 40, of Norfolk, was killed when his semi truck went off the highway near Deaborn around 8:45 a.m.

According to troopers, Gouin's truck hit a large tree head-on when it went off the roadway.

The Patrol is unsure what caused Gouin to go off the road.

The accident the southbound lanes of I-29 for hours while crews worked to clear the debris. Large cranes were brought in to lift the tangled pieces of the truck out of the ditch.

This is Troop A's 54th fatality for 2013.
