(SOUTH BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo.) South 59 Highway near Rushville was closed for about a half hour Monday evening after a one-vehicle accident.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the driver of a Mercury Mountaineer from Atchison, Kansas lost control of his vehicle near County Road 81 where it then became airborne and flipped several times.

The vehicle came to rest in a ditch off 59 Highway.

Rescue crews needed to extricate the driver and his female passenger from Lancaster, Kansas.

The driver was life-flighted to Heartland Regional Medical Center while the passenger was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Their injuries were described as moderate by troopers at the scene.

The patrol is investigating the accident.
