(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) The old tradition of camping is being kept alive this week by the YMCA at Camp Marvin Hillyard.

Kids have a full schedule to keep them active, busy, and healthy.

Some of the activities include archery, horseback riding, arts and crafts, swimming, and of course, camp fires.  The staff focuses on outdoor skills that kids can take with them outside of camp.

"We keep it action packed, we keep activities in it that they love.  They like to come back, they like to see the kids that they made friends with the year before.  So we have a lot of returners this year," said Camp Director Melanie Osteen.

Financial aid is available for kids who want to participate in the camp but can't due to financial reasons.  Osteen says that families who may be in that situation, should call the YMCA directly.
