Northwest Softball Splits with Fort Hays

Stephanie Mark drives in six runs as the Bearcats grab a 7-4 win before falling 3-1.
(MARYVILLE, Mo.) Stephanie Mark scored the first run in each game of Saturday's doubleheader and drove in six runs as Northwest split with Fort Hays, winning 7-4 before falling 3-2.

Mark entered the day tied with Chantel Adams for the team lead with seven home runs on the season. She added to that total by knocking a two-run blast in the first inning.

FHSU's Samantha Villareal promptly responded with a solo shot of her own to cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second.

The Bearcats (15-19, 8-8) plated runners in each of the next three innings to keep the Tigers at a three-run distance. Mark accounted for five RBI while Adams and Madison Jones registered the other two.

Junior Abbie Vitosh (6-8) struck out six batters while giving up six hits and two walks.

Mark and Adams kicked things off again in the second meeting, plating the team's lone runners in the third frame.

FHSU (23-16, 12-8) proceeded to hang one run in the last three innings to grab the lead off Sarah Baldwin (7-8). The Chillicothe native gave up eight hits and struck out six batters while walking one.
