Lafayette Alum Hold 1st Annual Basketball Camp

Former Fighting Irish basketball players Bryston and Derrick Williams held a three day camp in St. Joe.
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A pair of former Lafayette basketball players returned to their old stomping grounds this weekend to groom the next generation of St. Joseph athletes.

Bryston Williams and Derrick Williams held their first annual Williams Hoop Camp. It was a three-day basketball camp that wrapped up Saturday afternoon at the Bookball 365 Gymnasium. Bryston and Derrick helped kids with fundamentals and speed and agility drills; workouts that they have perfected during their college careers.

Both Derrick and Bryston were standout athletes at Lafayette High School, and took their careers to the next level.

Derrick got his start at the next level with the College of the Ozarks before transferring to Peru State. He led the Bobcats in points (15.6 per game) and steals in the 2012-13 season.

Bryston played in 79 games through his first three seasons as a Bearcat. He averaged 5.7 points per game and shot 81-percent from the free throw line in the 2012-13 season. He also scored a career-high 27 points in the MIAA Tournament Championship against Central Missouri.

The first Williams Hoop Camp drew 35 athletes. They hope it continues to grow as they bring the camp back each year.
