Alfred was born on May 25, 1929 in Troy, Kansas to George and Berniece (Whetstine) Karn. He worked for Quaker Oats then Carnation Nestle’s in St. Joseph until retiring in 1991. Alfred served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korea Conflict.
Alfred was a member of the Community of Christ Church in Fanning, Kansas; American Legion Post# 359 and V.F.W.Post #15017 both in St. Joseph.
He married Carlene Shields on September 8, 1955 in Agency, Missouri. She survives of the home. Alfred was preceded in death by a son, John Lee Karn, his parents and a brother, George B. Karn.
Additional survivors include: daughters, Debra (Kent) Brooner of St. Joseph, Missouri; Barb (Col. David) Church of Menomonie, Wisconsin (currently serving in Afghanistan); son, George (Tracie) Karn of McLouth, Kansas; sisters, Norma Glenn & Grace Evans both of St. Joseph, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
FUNERAL: Thursday, September 19, 2013 - 10:30 A.M. at: Community of Christ Church in Fanning, Kansas. Burial: Mount Olive Cemetery in Troy, Kansas. Visitation; family will receive friends Wednesday evening 6-8 pm at the church in Fanning. Friends may call at the Harman Rohde Funeral Home in Troy, Kansas after 12 NOON Tuesday.
