Barbara was born on July 20, 1931 in Cameron, Missouri to Alvin and Josephine (Baker) Colby.

She was a 1949 graduate of Cameron High School.

Barbara married Medille Sackman on September 28, 1952 in Cameron, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Medille.

Barbara worked as a bookkeeper for many years, retiring in 1993.

She was a member of the Cameron United Methodist Church; OES Adah Chapter #17, Cameron; 4-H and received Outstanding 4-H Leader of the Year; Beta Sigma Phi; Cameron Historical Society; Cameron Chamber of Commerce; 1st women to receive the Crossroad Award; started the Pride Committee; Mo-Kan Regional Council; very active in the Republican Party and supporting the Republican candidates.

Survivors: 2 sons, Dwight (Brenda) Sackman, Odessa, MO, Doug (Vicky) Sackman, Independence, MO; daughter, Deborah Sackman, St. Joseph, MO; 2 brothers, Jay (Eleanor) Colby, East Lyme, CT, Ralph (Barbara) Colby, St. Joseph, MO; brother-in-law, Galen (Betty) Sackman, Topeka, KS; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services: 10:00 AM, Thursday, October 24, 2013 at Cameron United Methodist Church. Visitation: 6-8:00 PM, Wednesday at Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron, MO. Burial: Cameron Memory Gardens, Cameron.
