A. LeVerne Moody, 79, Cosby, Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2014 at his home.

A. LeVerne Moody, 79, Cosby, Missouri passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2014 at his home.

LeVerne was born September 18, 1934 in Cainesville, Missouri to LeRoy and Ann (Baines) Moody. He graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1952. LeVerne began his trucking career hauling lumber and driving a bread truck for Colonial Bakery, then became an owner-operator for Southwest Freight Lines. He retired from Yellow Freight in 1999. LeVerne enjoyed children, which made him want to start driving a school bus for the Waukee School District in 2008. He moved to Missouri with his daughter and her family in 2011.

LeVerne married Shirley Edwards on August 29, 1955 and they later divorced. They had three daughters, Kimberly Hewitt (Brian), St. Charles, Missouri, Kristie Dixon (Brad), Cosby, Missouri and Kay Katon (Bob), Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by grandchildren, Matthew Hewitt (Kelly), Nathan Hewitt (Whitney), Daniel Hewitt, Brooke Palmer (Justin), Bryce Dixon, Brea Dixon and Cameron Katon; two great-grandchildren, Dixon Palmer and Olivia Hewitt; brother, LeRoy Moody (Fern), Ankeny, Iowa; and sister-in-law, Ardella Moody, Kansas City, Missouri.

He then married Mary Hanian of Des Moines on August 5, 1967. And helped her raise daughters, Mary Kay Bruce (Doug) and Liz Timm (Jay); grandchildren, Rachel, Ashley, Heather, Nick, Shelby, Lauren, Kaleb, Marissa and Bryce. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2011.

LeVerne was a member of the Teamsters Local 147. He was a strong advocate of safety and received numerous safe driving awards from Yellow Freight and the Teamsters. LeVerne enjoyed yard work, collecting model cars, trucks and tractors.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cheryl Mossberg; and brother, Dannie Moody.

Graveside Services and Interment:  1:00 P.M. Monday, Resthaven Cemetery, West Des Moines, Iowa. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
