Ben J. Purvis, 87, formerly of Platte City, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Oakridge Convalescent Center in Plattsburg, MO.
Ben J. Purvis, 87, formerly of Platte City, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Oakridge Convalescent Center in Plattsburg, MO.

A visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2014, at Rollins Funeral Home in Platte City; immediately followed by an 11:00 a.m. graveside service at the Platte City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.

Ben was born May 21, 1926 in Salt Lick, Kentucky to Eddie F. and Blanche M. (White) Purvis.

He was a graduate of the Platte City High School, and lived in the Platte City area most of his life, until moving to Dearborn, MO in later years.

Ben married Captola Brubeck on January 13, 1947, in Horton, KS.

He worked as a foreman throughout Kansas and Missouri in road construction; and was a member of the Laborer Union of North America. Ben enjoyed camping, fishing, mushroom hunting, and had a passion for telling a good joke.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Captola; his brother Jim Purvis; his sisters Nellie Hornbeck, and Pearl Leipard.

Ben is survived by: a step daughter Shirley Pettis of California; his friends and caretakers Darlene and Ronald Darby of Weston, MO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Arrangements By: Rollins Funeral Home—Platte City, MO—Ph. 816-858-2129.
