Chief Master Sgt. Stephen Kenneth Gabriel, 54, St. Joseph, Missouri died Thursday, July 17, 2014 at his home.
He was born September 13, 1959 to Kenneth and Barbara (Graff) Gabriel in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Stephen graduated from Central High School in 1978 and enlisted in July 1978 as a Turboprop Propulsion Specialist at the 139th Airlift Wing. He is the Supervisor of Maintenance Operations Flight at the Rosecrans Air National Guard Base.
Stephen married Jane Denton on September 18, 2010. She survives of the home.
He earned a knowledgeable aircraft maintenance past after serving in three war-time contingencies as well as in state emergency missions, nationwide, including Hurricane Katrina relief response efforts in 2005. Chief Gabriel served overseas in support of Operations Desert Shield Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. Stephen earned the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
Stephen was a member of the Savannah Lodge No. 71, A.F. & A.M. and the Moila Shrine. He was also a member of the Enlisted Association of the National Guard, Missouri National Guard Association and the 139th Chiefs Association.
He enjoyed going to the races with his grandson, Chase and to other sporting events with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bob and Bernice Graff and Jesse and Wichenda Gabriel; aunt, Peggy Colbach; and father-in-law, Jack B. Denton.

Ashton and Maggie Lackey, Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas; step-daughters, Jessica, Hannah and Bailee Lackey, St. Joseph, Missouri; grandchildren, Riley, Randon, Reed, Chase, Carter and Tucker; sister, Nancy Gabriel, St. Joseph, Missouri; and sister, Cheryl Gabriel, St. Joseph, Missouri.
Services: 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, Green Valley Baptist Church. Interment Savannah Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
